Accommodation, Carpool and Library Services (ACLS) has proudly supported a special event at the Ballarat GovHub to celebrate NAIDOC Week.
Each year, National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and this year’s theme, chosen by the National NAIDOC Committee, was "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud." The theme paid tribute to the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture. Fire symbolizes the deep connection to Country, the bond between communities, and the rich traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
For the third consecutive year, Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) organised a key NAIDOC Week event at the Ballarat GovHub that featured a smoking ceremony attended by Hub occupants including employees from Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, State Revenue Office Victoria, Worker Screening Unit and Service Victoria. Following the ceremony, attendees enjoyed a morning tea which fostered a strong sense of community and shared celebration.
Nicole Rich, Executive Director Regulatory Services & Director, CAV spoke after Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, Bek and Jody welcomed everyone to country. Nicole also told the ACLS team she was proud we could host such a great event on Wadawurrung land at the wonderful GovHub site.
